GIAC was founded by the SANS Institute (a private US company) in 1999. Although the two entities are connected and therefore work together, candidates are not required to take the SANS training to take the GCIH exam.

GCIH Structure

The test GCIH is the only benchmark necessary for obtaining the GIAC Certified Incident Handler designation. Also, it’s a proctored exam and candidates should pay a registration fee of $1,999 to be eligible for it.
